I
grew up in Stratford, New Jersey, in central Camden County. I
attended Parkview and Yellin schools, and then Sterling High School
before graduating in 1979. At the age of 13, I converted my bedroom into a temporary darkroom and began printing my own black and white photographs with an enlarger borrowed from my grandfather. Mostly, I shot Sterling's track meets and ice hockey games as well as family and friends. Also, through a friend, I was able to shoot on the sidelines at a number of Glassboro State College football games. Very few of my photographs from that period survive. Those that do show an interesting eye, but they suffered from a lack of understanding of the darkroom process. Photography continued, as a hobby, while I attended, Camden County College, The New Jersey Institute of Technology and Rutgers University in Camden. In 1988, I received a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, from Rutgers. I have spent time as a programmer for several area companies including Philadelphia Electric, Reliance Insurance, ADP, On-Line Software, Computer Associates and the Cigna Corporation. I have worked in maintenance, development, quality assurance, product support and many other positions over the years. In 1987, at Rutgers, I met Frances Witucki. Frances is a 1985 graduate of Lenape High School in Medford and a 1992 graduate of Rutgers University in Camden. Frances grew up in Marlton, Mount Laurel and Philadelphia. Her mother graduated from Lenape in 1967 and has now spent over 25 years working as a teacher and administrator in the district. Frances and I were married in October 1994. We currently reside in Mount Laurel with our three children, Eddie (7), Christopher (7) and Katie, born in November 2001. If we stay in our current home, our children will be the third generation to graduate from Lenape (in 2014, 2016 and 2019!) After shooting several weddings for friends and family members, I started shooting weddings professionally for two South Jersey studios in the summer of 1995. By shooting for large busy studios I have been able to gain experience quickly, shooting almost 300 events in just a few years. During this time I have worded with two of the area's top wedding photographers and studied with some of the country's best through seminars, workshops, books and professional magazines and websites just like this one. I have also become a member of the Professional Photographers Association of New Jersey. This organization provides opportunities to study and advance my technique through meetings and seminars with the top photographers in the area. My working style continues to evolve. I found the style of shooting used by studios in this area to be very restrictive. My own style is a mix of traditional and contemporary portraiture. My goal is to have you and your family appear relaxed. But, I also feel that you should look your best. This means that I will do some "directing". I am also looking forward to shooting more black and white images. These will be in an unposed, photojournalistic style. These will provide you with a very intimate view of your wedding day and the relationships that make your life special. |
